How to remove those annoying image borders in Blogger in less than 5 minutes!

When I first started blogging I didn't mind that Blogger automatically put a frame and shadow around my images. But after a while, it started to bug me. I wanted a cleaner look. And more control. If I wanted a frame, I could put it there myself! It actually took me ages to figure out how to do this but when I finally did, it was super simple - all I needed was a little bit of CSS code and sometimes the right code can be so hard to find, especially for the non-technically minded out there like me. It's a little thing, but man was I chuffed when I got it fixed!

So here's a really quick tutorial for anyone out there with the same problem.
Don't forget to save a backup of your template before you mess around with it in case you want to go back! I actually have a private test blog that I play around with so I can try out all sorts of crazy things and not risk any damage to my real blog. For a beginner in blog design like me it's a really good idea, especially when you're playing with CSS and HTML.

Ok, let's get down to business...

1. In your Blogger dashboard, go to Template then click on the orange 'Customise' button. This will take you to the Blogger Template Designer page.

2. In the left menu, click on 'Advanced', then scroll down to the bottom of the new menu that comes up and click on 'Add CSS'.

3. In the white box, you want to add the following code:

.post-body img, .post-body .tr-caption-container, .Profile img, .Image img,
.BlogList .item-thumbnail img {
  padding: none !important;
  border: none !important;
  background: none !important;
  -moz-box-shadow: 0px 0px 0px transparent !important;
  -webkit-box-shadow: 0px 0px 0px transparent !important;
  box-shadow: 0px 0px 0px transparent !important;
}

Make sure you hit enter after the last character.

4. Now click on 'Apply To Blog' in the top right corner. And you're done!

Did it work for you? I hope so! Please let me know in the comments if you tried this and how you went!

  2. Thank you for this effective and well written explanation! I didn't really have an issue with the border until I inserted a large picture and the border went beyond the column width and drove me crazy. I searched and found instructions that didn't work (must have been for previous versions) and ones similar to yours but were presented in such a convoluted manner. So, thank you very much for giving a clear, concise tutorial!! (The added bonus was being introduced to your fun blog! I like your work!)

  9. I recently redirected my blogger website to a new Wordpress website. I've just added the custom css on the old blogger site and while the frames are gone on the original blogger site, they still appear in my newer WordPress site. Any thoughts? :) Thanks so much!
